The Szrenica shelter is located on the top of the mountain of the same name (1,362 m above sea level), in the Karkonosze National Park, on the main Karkonosze tourist trail (red), 300 m from the border (15 minutes to the former tourist border crossing with the Czech Republic). It is an ideal base for trips and tourists on both the Polish and Czech sides. From Szrenica you can continue the route to Śnieżne Kotły.
Szrenica is a peak in the western part of the Karkonosze Mountains, situated in the immediate vicinity of Szklarska Poręba. Since 1959, it has been located within the Karkonosze National Park, on the border with the Czech Republic. It stands at an elevation of 1,362 meters above sea level.
The shortest trail to Szrenica follows the red trail through Hala Szrenicka and is about 5 km long. The hike takes an average of 2–2.5 hours. Leaving your car in the parking lot on Szosa Czeska shortens the trip by about 20 minutes
Yes, a cable car runs from Szklarska Poręba to Szrenica—first the Szrenica I two-person chairlift to the transfer station, and then the Szrenica II chairlift to the upper station, about 400 m below the summit. The cable car operates year-round.
At the summit is the “Pod Szrenicą” mountain hut, offering a panoramic view of the Karkonosze and Izera Mountains. Nearby are Śnieżne Kotły, Kamienna Góra, and downhill ski runs. In summer, from Szrenica you can continue your hike along the Karkonosze ridge toward Wielki Szyszak and on to Śnieżka.
The trail from Szklarska Poręba is technically easy but requires good physical condition due to the elevation gain (approx. 700 m). In winter, it’s worth considering the risk of icy conditions and bringing crampons or ice cleats.
